As part of its Free and Open Source Software advocacy, Bluepoint Foundation will hold the 2nd Summer Geek Camp on April 17-19, 2009 at the Loreland Farm Resort in Antipolo City.

Taking off from the great success of the first camp in Tagaytay last year, Summer Geek Camp 2009 will focus on Enterprise 2.0 for software developers, system & network administrators, and information managers.

There will be 3 working groups: 1) Software Development, 2) System & Network Administration, and 3) Information Management. The use of Open Source tools and technologies will be integrated into these tracks. Technical sessions are also going to be intensified for this camp, with certificates for those who fulfill all the training requirements. Topics include:

Cloud Computing
Software as a Service (SaaS)
Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX)
Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)
Representational State Transfer (REST)
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)

LinuxChix Philippines took part in the Software Freedom Day celebration last September 20, 2008. More than 500 attendees flocked to the National Computer Center building at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City for the whole day affair.

A booth was allotted to LinuxChix by the organizers, Bluepoint Linux Users Elite (alumni of Bluepoint Foundation) and Commission on Information and Communications Technology (under the office of the President). There were a lot of inquiries and sign-ups for membership throughout the day. The press also took interest in what LinuxChix is all about.

New members from different IT colleges in Luzon received lots of freebies. They expressed interest in contributing to the official launch of the exclusive chix LUG next year.

"The Fedora Project has announced the release of Fedora 9, codenamed Sulphur. As your periodic table will tell you, Sulphur is the element below Oxygen, a fitting release name for the third major distribution to ship KDE 4.0 (congrats to Mandriva and Kubuntu for getting there first) and the first to make it the only version of the desktop. Fedora 9 includes KDE 4.0.3."
